IN RE: STEVEN M. ROSSI

ORDER OF DISBARMENT1

SUMMARY

Steven M. Rossi was disbarred by the Rhode Island Supreme Court for the reasons stated in Matter of Rossi, 737 A.2d 880 (Sept. 21, 1999). The respondentís conduct included neglecting legal matters entrusted to him, lying to clients regarding the status of their cases, commingling and converting client funds entrusted to him to pay medical bills, and abandoning his law practice without notice to his clients.

On September 30, 1999, Bar Counsel filed a petition for reciprocal discipline in the Supreme Judicial Court for Suffolk County. The respondent was served with an order of notice requiring him to respond to Bar Counselís petition within thirty days, but he failed to do so. The respondent also failed to appear at a hearing on the petition, although he was sent notice.

On November 29, 1999, the Supreme Judicial Court entered a judgment of disbarment.

Compiled by the Board of Bar Overseers based on the record before the Court.
