FULL-TIME LAW SCHOOL STUDENT INTERN

The Office of the Bar Counsel seeks a law school student to intern for the summer 2017. The position is full-time (40 hours per week). Pay is at the rate of $20 per hour.

The mission of the Office of the Bar Counsel is to protect the public from unethical conduct by lawyers and to preserve and enhance the integrity and high standards of the bar. The office investigates and prosecutes attorney discipline cases before the Board of Bar Overseers and the Supreme Judicial Court.

The student intern will assist in the review and investigation of complaints against attorneys, and the preparation of formal charges. Investigation can include reviewing and summarizing large volumes of file material and court documents, as well as obtaining information from a variety of sources. Case-specific research projects can include the interpretation and application of the ethical rules to specific situations, the appropriate sanctions for misconduct and the applicability of procedural rules unique to disciplinary proceedings. Legal research skills are essential, as well, as excellent writing skills.

The Office of the Bar Counsel seeks a full-time secretary to work with two attorneys. The mission of the Office of Bar Counsel is to protect the public from unethical conduct by lawyers and to preserve and enhance the integrity and high standards of the bar.

Excellent secretarial and computer skills, including proficiency in Word, transcription, scanning, communications and organization. Familiarity with Outlook and Excel and experience with document management systems desirable. Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks essential. Must be a team player. Legal office experience preferred.

Comprehensive benefits package includes three weeks' vacation. Also available are individual and family medical, dental, life and disability insurance. Employees are eligible to enroll in the agency's defined contribution and elective deferral pension plans. Starting salary range $50,000 - $53,000.
