Collection Agency License & Business Office Requirements
Any entity collecting accounts over 30 days past due from debtors in the Commonwealth must obtain a collection agency license by submitting and receiving approval of a complete application form pursuant to Mass. Gen. Laws chapter 93, ยง 24 and its implementing regulations at 209 CMR 18.00 et seq. Collection agencies engaged mainly or preponderantly in the collection of debt of consumer debtors must maintain an office in the Commonwealth pursuant to 209 CMR 18.05. In addition, licensed agencies must provide a suitable location and make records available for these examinations.
