Hearing Scheduled for July 28 2010
In accordance with the authority granted to the Commissioner of Insurance under M.G.L. c. 175, M.G.L. c. 176A, M.G.L. c. 176B, M.G.L. c. 176G and M.G.L. c. 176J, the Division of Insurance ("Division") will hold a public informational hearing regarding the benefits of transparency in the health care marketplace ("Informational Hearing on Transparency"). The purpose of the Informational Hearing on Transparency is to afford all interested persons an opportunity to provide oral and/or written comments regarding the benefits of transparency and its effect on competition in the health care marketplace. Specifically, the Division is seeking comments on ways to promote transparency, including insurers' public disclosure of certain cost information related to specific procedures.
The Division will hold the Informational Hearing on Transparency at 10:00 a.m. on July 28, 2010, at the Division's offices at 1000 Washington Street, Hearing Room 111, Boston, MA 02118. The hearing will feature a panel presentation moderated by the Undersecretary of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation, Barbara Anthony, and comprised of the following industry representatives, consumer advocates, and experts in the field:

● David Balto, Center for American Progress
● Karen Granoff, Massachusetts Hospital Association
● Alice A. Coombs, M.D., Massachusetts Medical Society
● Eric Linzer, Massachusetts Association of Health Plans
● David Morales, Commissioner of Health Care Finance and Policy
Following presentations and commentary from this distinguished panel, persons who wish to provide oral comment at this informational hearing may be heard. Any person may submit a Notice of Intent to Comment to the Division on or before 4:00 p.m. on July 26, 2010. All other persons who wish to comment will be heard subsequent to those who notify the Division in advance. Persons wishing to submit written comments may do so until the record of the hearings is closed.
