The State Board of Social Workers announced today disciplinary action against the following licensee:
Beverly Ethier, Chicopee
The Board revoked Ethier's license by order of default. The Board alleged that Ethier, while the Director of Social Services at Mercy Care Center in Springfield, and after a Mercy Care resident died, failed to notify that resident's family both of her death and of her authorization to have the resident cremated. Furthermore, the Board alleged that Ethier withdrew and used $1,100 of the resident's money to pay for the resident's funeral arrangements without authorization to do so. The Board alleged that these actions constituted gross misconduct, gross incompetence, gross negligence, unethical or unprofessional conduct, practicing beyond the scope of her license, and engaging in dishonesty, fraud, or deceit that is related to the social work profession.
