Re: Metropolitan Life Insurance Company Class Action Notice and Claim Filing Deadline - Limited Extension

Dear Sir/Madam:

As you may know, Metropolitan Life Insurance Company recently has agreed to a proposed settlement of a class action lawsuit that made claims of alleged racial discrimination in the sale of certain life insurance policies between 1901 and 1972. These sales took place, in part, in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

As part of this proposed settlement, you were identified as the recipient of a notice package, which explains the substance of the lawsuit, your possible entitlement to benefits under settlement of the lawsuit, as well as instructions on how to participate in the settlement.

Under the terms of the settlement, all claims were required to be postmarked no later than April 23, 2003. At this time, Metropolitan Life Insurance Company has advised the Division of Insurance that for those individuals who requested a claim form on or prior to April 23, 2003, the deadline for filing a claim has been extended to April 30, 2003. Please note that this extension only applies to those individuals who requested a claim form on or prior to April 23, 2003.

If you require further assistance, you may contact the Settlement Administrator at (800) 582-8748 or (866) 863-9528 (TDD/TTY), or you may contact me at (617) 521-7306.

Additional information also is available via the Internet at www.lifesettle.com, or you may write to the Settlement Administrator, Thompson v. Metropolitan Life, P.O. Box 61, Minneapolis, MN 55440-8511.

Sincerely,
