Hearing Scheduled for June 10, 2008

In accordance with the authority granted under Chapter 176K of the Massachusetts General Laws, and pursuant to 211 CMR 71.24, the Commissioner of Insurance will conduct a public hearing concerning the overall condition of the Massachusetts market for Medicare Supplement insurance. The public hearing will be held on June 10, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at the Division of Insurance, 5th Floor, One South Station, Boston, Massachusetts.

Pursuant to G.L. c. 176K, §7(j), the Commissioner annually conducts a public hearing to monitor the overall condition of the Massachusetts market for Medicare Supplement insurance so as to improve access by individuals to coverage under Chapter 176K, to encourage aggregation of risk pools through product selection and to promote long-term access by individuals to coverage through continued stability and financial viability of all carriers in the market. This public hearing will afford all interested persons an opportunity to provide oral and written statements relating to these matters. The Division welcomes all statements concerning the impact of Chapter 176K on the market for these products since 1994, as well as the anticipated effects during the coming year.

In accordance with 211 Code Mass. Reg. 71.24, interested persons are encouraged to suggest issues to be addressed at the hearing by filing requests with the Docket Clerk, Hearings and Appeals, Division of Insurance, no later than April 15, 2008.

Any person who wishes to present an oral or written statement at the hearing is requested to submit a Notice of Intent to participate no later than June 3, 2008. All others will be heard after those who notify the Division in advance. Written statements may be submitted in advance of the hearing. All notices and submissions must be sent to the Docket Clerk, Hearings and Appeals, Division of Insurance, One South Station, Boston, Massachusetts 02110-2208, and must refer to Docket No. G2008-003.
