RE: New Online Licensing of Resident and Nonresident Surplus Lines Brokers
The purpose of this Bulletin is to notify resident and nonresident surplus lines brokers licensed in Massachusetts, as well as any persons or business entities seeking to become licensed as a surplus lines broker in Massachusetts, that as of July 18, 2012, the Massachusetts Division of Insurance (“Division”) is using the National Insurance Producer Registry (“NIPR”) Gateway for both original surplus lines broker applications and surplus lines broker license renewals.
The Division will continue to accept surplus lines broker initial and renewal applications in paper format only until September 17, 2012. Thereafter, the Division will not accept paper applications, or process fees, sent to the Division’s offices for initial licensure or renewal. On and after September 17, 2012, the Division will permit only online licensing for surplus lines brokers through the NIPR Gateway.
NIPR is a non-profit affiliate of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners. Electronic licensing through the NIPR Gateway provides a surplus lines broker the ability to quickly and easily apply for a new license or renew a current license online, using credit card or EFT payments.
For further information regarding surplus lines broker licensing through the NIPR Gateway, please contact the Division’s Producer Licensing Department at (617)-521-7794 or visit NIPR’s website at www.nipr.com.
