VARIANCE REQUESTS:

1) WORCESTER POLYTECHNIC INSTITUTE-100 INSTITUTE ROAD-WORCESTER

The Petitioner (Mr. John Swift, P.E.) requests a variance from 248 CMR (Code of Massachusetts Regulation) 10.00, the Uniform State Plumbing Code, Section 10.12 (f) 3 & 4 to allow the backwash from the swimming pool to discharge to sanitary, in lieu of connecting to storm. The Worcester Board of Health defers to the Board.

2) DCAM - UMASS AMHERST - NEW LAB SCIENCE BUILDING

The Petitioner (Mr. Ron Ferrara, Project Manager) requests a variance from 248 CMR (Code of Massachusetts Regulation) 3.00 & 10.00, the Uniform State Plumbing and Fuel Gas Code, Section 3.04)1) & 10.06(1) to allow the use of CPVC (colored purple) in lieu of an approved material for use in a commercial application. As this is a State project, a Board of Health letter is not required.

3) 290 AUTO BODY - 73 WEST BOYLSTON DRIVE - WORCESTER

The Petitioner (Mr. Alan D'Allessandro, Master Plumber) requests a variance from 248 CMR (Code of Massachusetts Regulation) 10.00, the Uniform State Plumbing Code, Section 10.09 (1) (b) to allow the installation of a Board listed Zurn Z1189 in lieu of a gas/oil/sand separator installed in accordance with 10.09 (1) (d) 1. The Worcester Board of Health defers to the Board.

4) A JANNAKAS-YOGURT & EXPRESSO CAFE-48 WINTER STREET-BOSTON

The Petitioner (Mr. Arthur Jannakas, Owner/President) requests a variance from 248 CMR (Code of Massachusetts Regulation) 10.00, the Uniform State Plumbing Code, Section 10.10 (18)(i) to not require the installation of a restroom in this 490 square foot restaurant. The petitioner presently has access to a core restroom. It requires exiting the café to the sidewalk and entering the main building door to access the core facility. The Boston Inspectional Services acting as the Board of Health defers to the Board.

5) RESIDENCE - 88A MARION STREET - BROOKLINE

The Petitioner (Ms Kirsten McKillop) requests a variance from 248 CMR (Code of Massachusetts Regulation) 3.00 & 10.00, the Uniform State Plumbing Code, Sections 3.04(1) and 10.06(a) to allow the installation of a non-listed bathtub and faucet. The Brookline Board of Health has no objection to the request.

6) PREPPY PUPPY BAKERY - 2380 CRANBERRY HIGHWAY - WAREHAM

The Petitioner (Amy Singulais, Owner) requests a variance from 248 CMR (Code of Massachusetts Regulation) 3.00, the Uniform State Fuel Gas Code, Section 3.04(1) to allow the installation of a non-listed Hobart compact oven rack. As this is a Gas Variance, no Board of Health is required.

7) CHILDRENS HOSPITAL - LONGWOOD AVENUE - BOSTON

The Petitioner (John Rose, Plumbing Engineer, RW Sullivan) requests a variance from 248 CMR (Code of Massachusetts Regulation) 10.00, the Uniform State Plumbing Code, Section 10.08(1)(a) to not require fixture traps in the Bone Marrow Transplant patient rooms. The petitioner is proposing to install indirect wastes to a receptor suspended from the slab located in the Mechanical Room on the floor below. The Boston Inspectional Services acting as the Board of Health defers to the Board.

8) RESIDENCE - 6 LAKESHORE ROAD - WESTPORT

The Petitioner (Ms Kath Trent, Owner) requests a Special Permission Variance from 248 CMR (Code of Massachusetts Regulation) 10.00, the Uniform State Plumbing Code, Section 10.16(16)(c) to allow the installation of Automatic Vent Fittings for the kitchen and bathroom sinks . The Westport Board of Health voted to approve the variance.

9) KRISTINA WATKINS - 2 BROWN ROAD - HARVARD

The Petitioner (James Powell, representing Ms. Watkins) requests a variance from 248 CMR (Code of Massachusetts Regulation) 3.00 and 10.00, the Uniform State Plumbing Code, Sections 3.04(1) and 10.06(1)(a)2 to install faucets and sinks that are not Board Approved. It appears the products have not been tested by a nationally recognize testing laboratory.

Now appears Mr. Hugh White, Cape Cod Plumbing School to discuss and demonstrate the school's online training program.
