The Board of State Examiners of Plumbers and Gas Fitters recently mailed license renewal forms to all licensees who have already completed their continuing education requirements for the current cycle and who have a current, valid address on record with the Board. If you did not receive a license renewal form, please follow the instructions below:

  • Check the Status of Your License: To start, check the status of your license by using the Division of Professional Licensure’s (DPL) "Check a License" search function. To locate your license record, you may enter your name by selecting the "Personal Information" tab or you may enter your license number by selecting the "License Number" tab. Once you have entered this information, select your license type from the drop-down box and then click on the "Search" button.
  • Licenses Listed as "Current":  If your license record lists your status as "Current" but you did not receive a license renewal form, the Board may not have your current mailing address because you may have recently moved and did not update your address with the Board. To ensure that you receive a license renewal form, please contact the Board staff by calling (617) 727-9952 and providing your current address. Once your information has been updated, a license renewal form will be mailed to you at the address that you have provided.
  • Licenses Listed as "Selected for Audit": If your license record lists your status as "Selected for Audit," this means that the Board may not have received information that you have completed the required continuing education credits necessary to renew your license.  Accordingly, you will need to take one of the following steps:
      • Submit Proof of Continuing Education: As soon as possible, provide the Board staff with copies of your continuing education certificates from Sessions 5 & 6. You may submit these certificates by e-mail to ann.m.deruosi@state.ma.us, by fax at (617) 727-6095, by first class mail to the Board of State Examiners of Plumber and Gas Fitters, Division of Professional Licensure, 1000 Washington Street, Suite 710, Boston, MA 02118, or by coming in person to the Board’s office at the Division of Professional Licensure. If you have not completed your continuing education requirements, please consult the Board’s "Approved Continuing Education Providers " webpage to find a provider near you.
      • Apply for an Age Exemption: If you were born prior to May 1, 1947 and are not a plumbing and gas inspector, you may be exempt from completing continuing education requirements. To take advantage of this exemption, please submit proof of your date-of-birth to the Board staff by e-mail to ann.m.deruosi@state.ma.us, by fax at (617) 727-6095, by first class mail to the Board of State Examiners of Plumbers and Gas Fitters, Division of Professional Licensure, 1000 Washington Street, Suite 710, Boston, MA 02118, or by coming in person to the Board’s office at the Division of Professional Licensure.
      • Apply for a Medical Waiver: In some cases, the Board may grant medical waivers to licensees who were unable to timely complete their continuing education requirements due to illness, disability, or other medically-related conditions. To apply for a waiver, please download and complete the "Medical Waiver Form pdf format of Medical Waiver Form
." Please submit this form, along with any corresponding documentation, to Board staff by e-mail to ann.m.deruosi@state.ma.us, by fax at (617) 727-6095, by first class mail to the Board of State Examiners of Plumbers & Gas Fitters, Division of Professional Licensure, 1000 Washington Street, Suite 710, Boston, MA 02118, or by coming in person to the Board’s office at the Division of Professional Licensure. Please note that all licensees applying for a medical waiver must complete this form and submit it to the Board for review prior to renewing their license.
  • All Other Licenses Status Codes: If the status of your license is listed as anything other than "Current" or "Selected for Audit," please consult the "Glossary of License Status Codes" page for more information.

Attention Active Duty Military: Please note that if you are a member of the military who is currently on active duty, you may be eligible for certain considerations related to your license under the Veterans’ Access, Livelihood, Opportunity and Resources (VALOR) Act.
