PRODUCT ACCEPTANCE:

PA1) NOVOPLAST – VESBO PRODUCTS

Representatives appearing before the Board to discuss the products they are seeking approval for are Robert Mandingo (VP) and Mehmet Can Erden (CEO)

VARIANCE REQUESTS:

GV58) DIGHTON POWER PLANT – 1450 SOMERSET AVENUE - DIGHTON

The Petitioner (Mr. Robert Bach, Operations Manager) requests a variance from 248 CMR (Code of Massachusetts Regulation) 10.00, the Uniform State Fuel Gas Code, Section 3.04 (1). The Petitioner seeks approval for the use of stainless steel piping for the replacement of the existing pilot gas line. As this is a gas variance, no Board of Health letter is required.

PV65) MBTA – YAWKEE STATION – 85 BROOKLINE AVENUE - BOSTON

The Petitioner (Mr. Tom Rovero, Project Manager) requests a variance from 248 CMR (Code of Massachusetts Regulation) 10.00, the Uniform State Plumbing Code, Section 10.09. The Petitioner notes MBTA guidelines require the installation of a sump with a sump pump within all elevator hoist ways. Petitioner notes there are no sanitary connections at the site and any containment tanks. MBTA is seeking a variance of 248 CMR to allow the discharge of any water within the sump onto the train ballast. As this is a state project, no Board of Health letter is required.

PV71) MASS MARITIME ACADEMY – 101 ACADEMY DRIVE – BUZZARDS BAY

The Petitioner (Mr. James Ieradi, Code Consultant) requests a variance from 248 CMR (Code of Massachusetts Regulation) 10.00, the Uniform State Plumbing Code, Section 10.10 (18) Table 1. The Petitioner seeks a waiver from the requirement to installing restroom facilities for all buildings in which people are, employed. As this is a state project no Board of Health letter is required.

PV70) LESLEY UNIVERSITY – 31 EVERETT STREET - CAMBRIDGE

The Petitioner (Mr. Christopher Mulhern, President HM Architects) requests a variance from 248 CMR (Code of Massachusetts Regulation) 10.00, the Uniform State Plumbing Code, Section 10.10 (18) (h) 6. The petitioner notes Lesley University would like to avoid replacing the existing showers when the bathrooms are, renovated in 2014. The Cambridge Board of Health commissioner supports the granting of this variance.

PV74) LESLEY UNIVERSITY – 31 EVERETT STREET - CAMBRIDGE

The Petitioner (Mr. Christopher Mulhern, President HM Architects) requests a variance from 248 CMR (Code of Massachusetts Regulation) 10.00, the Uniform State Plumbing Code, Section 10.10 (18) Table 1. Petitioner notes as part of the renovation and accessibility upgrade, bathroom reconfiguration will occur. The Petitioner proposes combining the required faculty fixtures with those required for students. The Cambridge Board of Health supports the granting of the variance as noted in the letter.

PV75) SCISSORS & PIE RESTAURANT – 226 NEWBURY STREET - BOSTON

The Petitioner (Mr. Andrew Arsenault, Project Manager) requests a variance from 248 CMR (Code of Massachusetts Regulation) 10.00, the Uniform State Plumbing Code, Section 10.10 (18) Table 1. The Petitioner notes the total square footage of the space is 830 square feet.  Boston Inspectional Services acting as the Board of Health takes no position on regarding this variance request.

PV77) SALEM STATE UNIVERSITY – LIBRARY – 71 LORING AVENUE - SALEM

The Petitioner (Mr. Shane Wise, Project Manager) requests a variance from 248 CMR (Code of Massachusetts Regulation) 10.00, the Uniform State Plumbing Code, Section 10.15. The Petitioner notes the existing 4” building drain receives a discharge of 169 fixture units. At 1/8” pitch the building drain will support a discharge of 180 fixture units. The petitioner is seeking approval to discharge an additional 57 fixture units to the existing drain. As this is a state project no Board of Health letter is required.
