Continuing Education Requirements under Massachusetts law require all insurance producers licensed after April 4, 1983 to fulfill continuing education requirements to maintain their licenses. The requirements are as follows:
  • The first thirty-six (36) month period (a license is issued for three (3) years) following the date of original issue of a license - requires sixty (60) hours of instruction
  • Subsequent thirty-six (36) month periods require forty-five (45) hours of instruction.

The courses, programs of instruction and seminars that qualify one to meet continuing education requirements include such national programs as CPCU, CLU, CIC and AAI.

As of November 1, 2003, Prometric is providing course review services for the Massachusetts Continuing Education Program. Complete information for both producers and course providers is available on Prometric's web site:

All current course providers should have received a Provider Package in the mail. New providers may download a copy of the Provider Package from Prometric's web site.

Providers will begin to report credits to Prometric for all producer courses completed after January 1, 2004.
Effective January 4th, 2010, Prometric will stop using Social Security numbers to identify licensees in the reporting process of continuing education credit hours. Continuing Education Providers will begin reporting continuing education credits via electronic roster submission, based upon the licensees' Producer license numbers or Public Insurance Adjuster license numbers.
Producers may check their records with Prometric to make sure that all new courses that have been completed have been posted to their accounts.
