THE OFFICE OF CAMPAIGN AND POLITICAL FINANCE seeks a law student to support the work of the office on a part-time basis (the number of hours to be worked and schedule are negotiable).  OCPF is an independent state agency that administers M.G.L. c. 55 and c. 55C.  Chapter 55 requires disclosure of campaign finance activity by state and local candidates and political committees, establishes limits on contributions and expenditures, restricts political activity of public employees and the use of public buildings and other public resources for political purposes.  Recent changes to the statute were signed into law by the Governor on July 1, 2009 and will go into effect on January 1, 2010.  These changes, among others, include requiring additional disclosure of campaign finance activity.  The office is seeking a legal intern who will be responsible for assisting in the implementation of the new law.  This will involve the drafting of guidelines, regulations, interpretive bulletins, advisory opinions, correspondence, and other documents.  In addition, the individual may be assigned responsibilities in connection with monitoring compliance and helping in the investigation of complaints.  The intern will report directly to the General Counsel.

Familiarity with the Massachusetts campaign finance law and the regulatory process, investigative experience, and understanding of state and local government; training in accounting, business or a similar discipline or knowledge of basic accounting and financial disclosure requirements.

SALARY:

Dependent on qualifications.

OCPF is an equal opportunity employer.
