RE: Disability Training Sessions
DATE: August 6, 2007
PERAC’s Disability Unit has been conducting regional training sessions for retirement boards for the past two years. Initially, they met with individual retirement boards to review disability cases and PERAC procedures. However, it was impossible to achieve a goal of meeting with all 106 boards each year, therefore, PERAC staff encouraged retirement boards from neighboring towns to gather in groups of 10-20 people. This has proven to be an effective approach.
In addition to meeting with PERAC staff members, these sessions give retirement board staff members an opportunity to interact with their counterparts from other retirement boards and share information about successful methods of processing disability cases, contacting providers for medical information, and obtaining documents from insurance companies.
Please be advised that the following training sessions have been scheduled for the summer/fall season of 2007.
DATE TIME LOCATION
August 16, 2007 10 AM-2 PM Norfolk County Retirement Board, Canton, MA
October 11, 2007 10 AM-2 PM Needham Library, Needham, MA
November 15, 2007 10 AM-2 PM PERAC Training Room, Somerville, MA
Individual invitations for training sessions will be sent to board staff in the specific regions. Those staff members will be given priority seating. Please be advised that attendance will be limited to 20 participants. This announcement is to alert other boards of the training dates. If you are interested in attending one of the training sessions, please notify Regina Manning at 617-591-8956. She will advise you if space is available and provide you with directions to the training site.
If you have any questions regarding training sessions for your area, please call 617-591-8956 and ask to speak with Barbara Lagorio, Disability Unit Director or Kate Hogan, Medical Service Supervisor.
