POSITION DESCRIPTION

                         Disability Coordinator

Reports To:    Chief Administrative Officer                 FLSA: Non-Exempt

Salary Range: $50,000-$60,000

GENERAL SUMMARY
The Member Services Representative/Disability Coordinator is primarily responsible for providing counseling to and calculating all benefit types for MCRS members and beneficiaries.  This position is also responsible for assisting with the processing of disability retirement applications and the post-retirement obligations of disability retirees.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS*

➢ Process and calculate superannuation, termination, accidental disability, ordinary disability, accidental death, active death and involuntary retirement applications, including necessary recalculations.
➢ Provide counseling to disability retirees with respect to the application process, the PERAC approval process, and post-retirement obligations.
➢ Assist PERAC with Section 91A compliance of disability retirees.
➢ Provide PERAC with annual actuarial disability file.
➢ Counsel members anticipating superannuation retirement as to the various options available to them and their post-retirement obligations.
➢ Provide members with creditable service estimates, benefit estimates and other retirement planning needs.
➢ Process and calculate makeups, redeposits, refunds and transfers.
➢ Process monthly retirement payroll on a rotating basis.
➢ Respond professionally to a variety of written, telephone, and in-person inquiries from active members, retirees, survivors, employers, other retirement system staff, etc.
➢ Maintain complete and accurate member and retiree records.
➢ Adhere to Board policies and exhibit core competencies as established by the Board.

➢ A Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) query is required.

PREPARATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

➢ Bachelor Degree in a related field required or equivalent relevant work experience.
➢ Excellent mathematical and analytical skills.
➢ Must be detail oriented, accurate, and organized.
➢ Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
➢ Working knowledge of Massachusetts General Laws, Chapter 32 and Pension Technology Group PensionPro software preferred.

➢ Use hands to finger, handle, or feel.
➢ Frequently reach with hands and arms.  
➢ Occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
➢ Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust and focus.

(1) As a member, administrator, fiduciary, officer, trustee, custodian, counsel,
agent, employee or representative in any capacity of a board.

(2) As a consultant, manager or provider of goods or services to a board.

(3) In any capacity that involves decision making authority or custody or control of
the monies, funds, assets or property of any system.
