Physician Recruitment for Medical Panel and Restoration to Service Examinations

The Public Employee Retirement Administration Commission (PERAC) schedules medical panel examinations for public sector employees. PERAC is recruiting Massachusetts board certified cardiologists, oncologists, pulmonary specialists, and orthopedic specialists to examine individuals who have applied for or are receiving disability benefits from one of the Commonwealth's 105 retirement systems. Physicians are asked to perform objective evaluations to determine disability, permanency, and causality. Physicians may also be asked to evaluate disability retirees to determine if they are able to be restored to service.

For details about the process and procedures associated with medical panel examinations of disability retirement applicants, please refer to the following publications:

Overview of the Disability Review Process (PDF)

Regional Medical Panel Packet (3/2011) (PDF)

Restoration to Service Packet (12/2011) (PDF)

If you are interested in conducting medical panel and restoration-to-service examinations for PERAC, please submit your curriculum vitae and completed copies of the PERAC Application for Employment , Request for Verification of Taxation Reporting Information form and the Commonwealth's Terms and Conditions form to this office at your earliest opportunity.

Physician Recruitment for Comprehensive Medical Examinations

The Public Employee Retirement Administration Commission (PERAC) schedules Comprehensive Medical Evaluations (CME) for public sector disability retirees. PERAC recruits occupational health physicians for these services through an open enrollment process which may be found on the Commonwealth's Website www.Comm-Pass.com/

Interested parties may follow the instructions on Comm-Pass, complete all mandatory materials and submit their response to PERAC. Responses will be reviewed by PERAC staff. If approved, physicians will be asked to perform objective evaluations and appropriate medical testing (approved by the PERAC Nurse Case Manager), and advise PERAC as to a retiree's continuing disability or ability to be restored to service.

For details about the process and procedures please go to the Commonwealth of Mass website www.Comm-Pass.com/

If you have any questions concerning the process, please contact Jane Carritte, Clinical Nurse Case Manager at (617) 591-8954.

Recruitment for Medical Review Organizations

The Public Employee Retirement Administration Commission (PERAC) schedules Comprehensive Medical Evaluations (CME) for public sector disability retirees. The facilities/physicians providing these services are coordinated through a Medical Review Organization (MRO). An MRO is a health organization who provides medical services within a medical community (examples: hospital based occupational health unit, independent occupational health clinic, etc.). The MRO must meet the criteria described in the PERAC CME RFR for MROs and adhere to the conditions, follow procedures, and ensure the quality of the physician reports. The physicians within the MRO must also operate within the mandates of the RFR.

If you are an MRO interested in contracting with PERAC, please go to the Commonwealth of Mass website www.Comm-Pass.com/

If you have any questions concerning this process, please contact Jane Carritte, Clinical Nurse Case Manager at (617) 591-8953.
