RE:          New Pension Fraud Poster

DATE:      October 9, 2013

As you were informed in PERAC Memo # 26 / 2013, the Public Employee Retirement Administration Commission (PERAC) maintains a toll-free hot line and an email address for the reporting of suspected fraudulent public pension claims, payments, falsified records, and affidavits.

After the 2007 fraud prevention poster campaign, several county and regional systems requested additional copies of fraud prevention materials for distribution to the governmental units within their districts.  Pursuant to these requests, we are enclosing copies of the 2013 poster; a brochure that informs readers about the PERAC Fraud Prevention Unit and provides some details about various types of pension fraud; and PERAC's “Referral Report of Potential Fraud” form to be used to report suspected pension fraud. Please forward a set of these posters, brochures, and referral reports to each of  the fire and water districts, regional school district, house authorities, etc., with which your retirement board interacts.

Please note that PERAC will be mailing posters, brochures and referral reports to the city and town clerks in your area so you need not be concerned about forwarding materials to them.

For additional copies of the poster or brochure, please feel free to contact our Communications Director, Natacha Dunker, at 617-666-4446, extension 970.

The Commission sincerely appreciates your cooperation in this endeavor.
