Deadline to File Your 2012 Tax Returns Extended
Due to the tragedy at the 2013 Boston Marathon, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and Massachusetts Department of Revenue (DOR) have announced that they will extend the federal and state tax filing deadlines.
Federal Taxes
The IRS has announced that eligible taxpayers will have until July 15, 2013 to file their 2012 federal returns and pay any taxes normally due April 15 without penalty. This extension will automatically be provided to all individual taxpayers living in Suffolk County, Massachusetts. Families, first responders, others impacted by this tragedy who live outside Suffolk County, and taxpayers whose tax preparers were impacted are also eligible for this extension. These taxpayers must call 1-866-562-5227 beginning on Tuesday, April 23 to notify the IRS before filing their return or making a payment. For more information, visit IRS.gov or call 1-800-829-1040.
State Taxes
DOR has also extended the tax filing deadline until July 15, 2013 for all state personal, business and corporate income tax returns, extensions and tax payments. This automatic extension applies to affected individuals living in all Massachusetts counties and impacted businesses.
