Construction launched on huge, stimulus-funded broadband expansion project

Construction was started on the MassBroadband 123 fiber-optic network project to expand broadband access to more than 120 communities in western and north central Massachusetts. The stimulus-funded project is one of the largest fiber-optic expansions under construction in the nation. The 1,300 mile Internet backbone network will attract private investment and job opportunities, help local governments deliver services more efficiently, and will provide direct connections to nearly 1,400 schools, libraries, hospitals and public safety facilities. Stimulus Stories: Building a new interchange, providing access in the South coast

A new biotechnology park that will straddle the border of Fall River and Freetown is being developed, and it is a stimulus-funded road project that is essential to making this unique and ambitious project happen. The new interchange off Route 24 on the Fall River/Freetown line is being funded with $32.7 million in stimulus grants and will enable access to the SouthCoast Bio Park as well as provide easier access to the Riverfront Business Park on the Freetown side.
