Federal, state, city officials tour stimulus-funded energy retrofit at Castle Square

US Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Shaun Donovan, Mayor Thomas M. Menino and Congressman Capuano toured the country's largest and most aggressive energy savings project of its kind: the renovation of the 500-unit Castle Square Apartments, an affordable housing project in Boston's South End. The stimulus-funded renovation represents the largest Deep Energy Retrofit ever undertaken in the country, expected to slash energy usage by 72 percent. Read more.



Stimulus Stories: Helping a town, one road at a time

Right in the middle of the town of Lenox is the intersection of Routes 183 and 7A, and the start of a road that leads straight through the heart of the Berkshires. Travel on these roads, especially in the summer, is extremely heavy but the narrow roads were in terrible shape. Stimulus awards totaling approximately $4.3 million are providing much-needed reconstruction, restoration and improvements to the pavement, drainage and sidewalks here. Read more.
