There is no "O" in October

With more than 265,000 vehicle registrations up for renewal this month, October is one of the RMV's busiest months for processing registrations. Most vehicle owners can easily renew their registration on line, but there has been some confusion about whether the last digit (which coincides with the month your registration expires) is the number zero (0) or the letter O.

The RMV expanded the plate mask for normal registration passenger plates in 2006 which eliminated the use of the letters I, Q, U and O so plates that expire in October end with the number zero (0). Remember this when you enter your plate number during the online registration transaction.

The RMV has also redesigned the letter "O" that appears on all plates that contain the letter "O" (including Passenger Reserved and Vanity Plates.) In the past, you could not distinguish the letter "O" from the number "0" on registration plates.  Now, the letter "O" will appear more box shaped whereas the number "0" will remain the same.
