Random Acts of Kindness Become RMV Mainstay

Registry employees and customers donated more than 2,600 toys and bicycles so that children across the Commonwealth could enjoy this holiday season. 2007 donations set a record of giving that has not been surpassed in the eight years that the RMV has partnered with the Salvation Army's annual toy drive. We were blown away by people's generosity throughout this campaign.
The holiday spirit continued beyond the toy drive, however. Taunton clerks dug into their own pockets to fill Christmas stockings and five big boxes with snacks, CD's and toiletries that were sent to American soldiers serving in Iraq. Additionally, Chicopee staffers took up a collection so that an Agawam family could celebrate Christmas. The family had lost their home which left their three boys facing a joyless holiday. Thanks to the generosity of a handful of public servants, the boys received toys and games, winter coats and gloves, and a turkey complete with all the trimmings that you could imagine.
These are the acts of charity one might expect to hear at this time of year, but in fact, this attitude of giving is practiced just about every work day by the men and women who staff the front-lines in 34 RMV branches across the Commonwealth. Whether it is donating time to help local high schoolers learn the financial responsibilities of owning a vehicle or completing a 5K to raise money for Mothers Against Drunk Driving, hundreds of our workers engage in community service or support their communities in other ways because it is a value that easily translates into excellent customer service.
Service is the basis of our work policy. The RMV motto is "There are three S's in success-service, safety, and security." We know this emphasis on service works, and as part of our New Year's resolve, we renew our commitment to efficiently and pleasantly address the needs of the Commonwealth's drivers.
