In an effort to increase customer convenience, Registrar Daniel A. Grabauskas announced today that auto inspection stickers will expire on the last day of the month, rather than the specific day that is printed on the stickers. This policy applies to all Massachusetts vehicle inspections performed since the federally mandated Enhanced Emissions and Safety Test was implemented on October 1, 1999.
"Although the specific expiration date was intended as a means to reduce end-of-the-month lines at stations, the flexibility for the motorist to have until months end for inspection is more in tune with our effort to be customer friendly," said Registrar Grabauskas. "Keeping your car maintained and arriving mid-month are two ways to ensure a trouble-free experience."
Date-specific inspection stickers will continue to be issued until the second quarter of 2000. At that time, a revised sticker clearly bearing the single month of expiration will be produced. Law enforcement agencies have been informed of the policy. Customers may obtain more information about the program at http://www.vehicletest.state.ma.us or by calling toll-free 1-877-387-8234.
