Registrar of Motor Vehicles, Daniel A. Grabauskas today announced that Polaroid Corporation has been chosen to build a new licensing system for use in the Registrys offices across the state.
Registrar Grabauskas said the company was chosen because, "Polaroid shares the Registrys commitment to superior customer service." He added, "we are pleased to work together to develop a 21st-century system that will move Massachusetts drivers through the licensing process with maximum efficiency and convenience."
The licensing system upgrade is the latest in a series of Registry improvements implemented by Grabauskas that includes creation of a greeter program, increased allocation of customer service staff and expanded Internet services.
Polaroid is the worlds leading supplier of driver licensing and photographic identification systems and will issue more than seven million new Massachusetts drivers licenses over the course of the five-year contract.
"The Polaroid drivers license is very durable and secure, we look forward to providing excellent service to Massachusetts drivers by providing a system that will expedite the licensing process," said John A. Munday, President of Polaroid ID Systems. "Since Polaroid Corporation invented the photo ID badge 50 years ago, our Identification Systems unit in Bedford, Mass. has become a dominant force in producing both US driver licenses and ID cards worldwide."
The new system will be installed over the summer and will be fully operational by late October.
