Governor Jane Swift today announced the opening of the new Falmouth branch of the Registry of Motor Vehicles. Swift was joined by Acting Registrar Kimberly Hinden and area legislators at a ribbon-cutting ceremony for today's grand opening at 80 Davis Straits. The new location will provide thousands of customers on the Upper Cape with a more conveniently located branch that will offer an array of service options.
"Today marks a new era of service for RMV customers on the Upper Cape," Swift said. "For many citizens in the Commonwealth, the Registry is the face of state government, and I am pleased to have the opportunity to make state services more accessible and easier to use."
The branch is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and offers all of the Registry's license and registration transactions, along with citation payments and written tests. Road tests will be offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays, starting next week.
The Falmouth location is the Registry's second full-service branch on the Cape. The South Yarmouth branch opened in the spring of 1999, after the Registry's Hyannis location was forced to close due to the Cape Cod Mall expansion project. While the office in South Yarmouth is a mere five miles from the former site in Hyannis, heavy traffic and the Registry's prime location on Route 28 meant that many customers were spending 40 minutes travelling to the Registry, indicating a need for a second Cape location.
"Convenience has always been one of our goals at the RMV," Hinden said. "We're thrilled with the opportunity to open this new branch and better serve the citizens of Cape Cod."
The new Falmouth location is equipped with the Registry's state-of-the-art
Q-Matic ticketing system, which allows customers to take a deli-style number upon entering the Registry. The system assures that customers are in the correct line and provides them with an estimated waiting time. Wait times for all RMV branches are also available online at www.massrmv.com or over the phone at 866-MASSRMV (866-627-7768).
This is the first of several openings and renovations planned for this year. The Registry's Quincy and Beverly branches are currently undergoing renovations, and new facilities will soon be open in Chicopee and Springfield.
