Boston, MA-(November 19, 2007)- Registry of Motor Vehicle inspectors joined local police in setting up high school safety-check points in the second Operation ETC-Every Teen Counts. The RMV launched the educational stings at south shore high schools last month in recognition of National Teen Safe Driver week, October 15-20, 2007. This time, enforcement teams targeted 17 high schools in other regions across the state.
Registrar Anne L. Collins said the results of the latest Operation ETC found that 95 percent of teenage drivers complied with junior operator passenger restrictions, but a disturbing number were not wearing seat belts. "I’m encouraged that teen drivers seem to be taking our new zero-tolerance penalties for JOL violations seriously, but it may be more of a challenge to convince them that seat belts do save lives."
The RMV plans to hold additional safety-checks after the first of the year. Below are the individual results of November’s Operation-Every Teen Counts.
