164 Prized License Plates Up for Grabs in RMV Annual Lottery
(Boston, MA) Registrar Rachel Kaprielian today officially opened the 2008 Plate Lottery for some of the most coveted license plates in the Commonwealth. This year, applicants will vie for 164 registrations which include P7, R3, U7 and 92Z.
"Massachusetts residents have a long history of fascination with their license plates, ever since the first registration was issued in 1903," said Registrar Kaprielian. "This lottery helps assure that any licensed and registered driver has a fair shot at getting a low number or eye-catching plate."
Applications and a list of this year's lottery plates are available in RMV branches and online at www.mass.gov/rmv. All entries must be mailed and postmarked by August 8, 2008 and are subject to lottery rules and eligibility requirements.
The RMV will hold the lottery drawing in September and all applicants are invited to attend. The date and location of the lottery drawing will be announced later this summer. Winners will be posted on the website and will also be notified by the RMV with instructions on how to swap plates.
There are currently more than 14,412 active lottery plates. Last year, 3,972 residents applied for the lottery which was created by law in 1997. The oldest was 91, the youngest 16.
