When people think about the Registry of Motor Vehicles they often think only of driver's licenses, license plates and local branch offices. Today's Registry is much more complex and features programs and technology that vastly expands the role of the RMV. Safely issuing a driver's license is now a matter of homeland security. New facial recognition software and anti-fraud technology is in use to help prevent identity theft and to support the efforts of law enforcement. The RMV also helps enforce tax and child support payment, sex offender registration, criminal warrants, citation payments, local parking ticket and excise tax collection, toll payment and more. We help support charities through our special plates, we help protect the environment through our vehicle inspection program, and we look out for the safety of children through our many school bus safety programs.
