The Information Technology Audit Division (ITAD) conducts general and application control examinations that provide independent, objective appraisals of internal controls over and within information systems and Information Technology (IT) processing environments for Commonwealth of Massachusetts state agencies. In the ever-changing world of technology, including Web-based applications, ITAD adapts its control reviews to meet risk and vulnerabilities based upon evolving threats. Through these engagements, the OSA helps improve the business systems used to manage the state's IT resources and improves the accuracy and reliability of information used by state decision makers. The primary goal of ITAD is to assist state organizations in achieving and maintaining a technology environment that safeguards assets, ensures system availability, maintains data and system integrity, achieves organizational goals, and uses resources efficiently. Due in part to heightened security concerns at all levels of government, audit work has continued to be largely focused on assessing the security and integrity of the state's information technology systems and data. In this regard, we are also assessing the extent to which entities are addressing IT governance objectives. Recently completed audits include the Massachusetts Parole Board, Information Technology Division’s Policy for implementing the Open Document Standard, Department of Mental Retardation-Southeast Region, Wrentham Development Center and Department of Fish and Game. Current initiatives and IT audits include Registry of Motor Vehicles, follow up review of the Administrative Office of the Trial Court and implementation of the MassCourts application system throughout the Trial Court, Division of Banks and development of a comprehensive state-wide set of IT policy standards. |
