Statement of Treasurer Steven Grossman on Suffolk Superior Court Decision to Maintain DiMasi Pension

State Treasurer Steven Grossman, Chairman of the State Retirement Board, issued the following statement in response to yesterday's decision by Suffolk Superior Court to deny a motion filed by the Attorney General's Office on the Board's behalf. The motion would have placed former House Speaker Salvatore DiMasi's future pension payments in escrow until his ongoing legal proceedings are completed:

"We respect and will abide by the court's decision. We took reasonable steps to protect the interests of the Commonwealth's taxpayers by seeking judicial guidance on this complex matter. I continue to believe it's appropriate to act responsibly to prevent individuals from collecting a pension once they've been convicted of crimes related to their office."
