Grossman Receives Micky Ward's "Fighter of the Year" Award

Famed Lowell Fighter's Charitable Foundation Recognizes Treasurer's Contributions

Team Micky Ward Charities has presented Treasurer Steven Grossman with its annual "Fighter of the Year" Award in recognition of his service to the hardworking men and women of Massachusetts.

"I'm thrilled to be singled out for this award, particularly because it comes from a charity that cares so deeply about children and families," said Grossman. "I believe that public service is all about giving back to your community, and I'm committed to serving as Treasurer in that spirit."

Team Micky Ward is a non-profit charitable organization that provides financial assistance to children and families in need to help improve their everyday quality of life. The organization generally makes donations to causes and kids in the Greater Lowell area, and it is estimated that the charity has distributed approximately $400,000 since its inception seven years ago.
Team Micky Ward came about following a running of the Boston Marathon that Micky Ward did with a friend that raised $1,000 for disadvantaged children.

Team Micky Ward Charities Board of Directors voted to give the award to Grossman in recognition of the Treasurer's "core values that we work so hard to promote." Grossman has put forth a number of key initiatives during his first six months in office, including the Small Business Banking Partnership and a number of Financial Literacy programs.

In his acceptance remarks, Grossman referenced his grandfather, Max Grossman, who was a freshly-minted American immigrant in East Boston more than a hundred years ago, promising to continue in his fighting spirit.

The presentation was held at the Meadow Creek Golf Club in Dracut following Team Micky Ward's charitable golf tournament.
