As we learn of the devastating effects of the earthquake and tsunamis sweeping Japan the members of the Massachusetts Asian American Commission offer their sincerest condolences for the loss of life and prayers for survivors and all the people of Japan.

The Asian American Commission extends its deepest sympathies to all those affected by the devastating events that struck Japan on Friday, March 11, 2011. We have been shaken by the tragedy that has fallen on Japan, and we recognize how deep our connections are to that nation and its people - many Massachusetts residents are of Japanese descent, and so too do many of us have friends, family, and colleagues in Japan.

The devastation throughout Japan will take time to heal economically, physically, and emotionally. The enduring spirit, strength and resilience of the Japanese people will propel them through this tragedy; however all of those impacted will need our continued support and empathy. The Asian American Commission urges you to contribute to the disaster relief efforts through donations to the various philanthropic organizations aiding in the recovery effort.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Japan and our Japanese American community as they deal with the aftermath of this disaster.

Sincerely,

Members of the Asian American Commission
