Treasury Finance Fellowship

The Treasury Finance Fellowship offers undergraduate students the opportunity to learn the ins and outs of financial career paths through first-hand working experience at the Massachusetts State Treasury.

Applications for the Summer 2024 Treasury Finance Fellowship are now open! The fellowship is open to undergraduate students attending an institution of higher education located in Massachusetts or undergraduate students who reside in Massachusetts but attend an institution of higher education located elsewhere in the United States.

The Massachusetts Treasury Finance Fellowship is a paid fellowship opportunity for undergraduate students interested in entering the financial services industry. In 2016, it debuted as the first fellowship of its kind sponsored by a government organization.

The Fellowship program reflects Treasury’s commitment to preparing a diverse group of fellows for future leadership positions by prioritizing mentorship and professional development. We are committed to embedding the core values of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEI&B) in every Treasury program, and applicants who advocate for these values are encouraged to apply.

Interested undergraduate students can choose to apply for a Treasury Finance Fellowship in the Debt Management Department, the Massachusetts School Building Authority, the Massachusetts State Lottery Commission, or the Pension Reserves Investment Management Board. Each fellow will be assigned to a specific mentor within the department who will meet with them regularly throughout the program. Fellows will be provided with the professional skills they need to launch their careers in finance and will benefit from a mentoring program designed to help them navigate the industry.

In addition to professional experience, fellows will be offered leadership programming and will be given the opportunity to attend Office of Economic Empowerment virtual events, including informational seminars, resume workshops, financial education discussions, and other professional development opportunities. Fellows will also be encouraged to participate in Treasury-wide DEI&B initiatives and programming.

Fellowships are scheduled to run during the summer. Fellows will be paid $20 per hour and are required to commit to 37.5 hours per week.
