Free Training for First Responders & Healthcare Professionals on Dealing with a Veteran's Invisible Wounds

Calling all First Responders (including Police, Fire, EMTs, Nurses and Allied Health Professionals):

The Home Base Program is offering free, online, on demand, accredited, short training videos on PTSD, traumatic brain injury, substance abuse, identifying suicide risk, and understanding how military culture impacts care. The series is aimed at educating those who have regular contact with veterans, and have the opportunity to recognize those at risk or in need of service.

Each session is under an hour in length, includes firsthand accounts from Veterans, as well as a robust list of resources for further care. There are 380,000 Veterans currently living in Massachusetts. One in three Veterans suffer from an invisible wound of war. Help us improve the identification, care, and referral of those Veterans who are suffering. See the videos here.

Military and Veterans Appreciation Night

When: Thursday, July 28, Gates open at 6:05 PM  Where: Brockton Rox Campanelli Stadium, 1 Feinberg Way, Brockton, MA 02301

Sponsored by VA Boston Healthcare, the first 100 veterans to enter the stadium will receive free tickets and food for them and a guest. Veterans benefits and healthcare information, giveaways and prizes will also be included in the appreciation night. Please bring a veteran ID or proof of military service.The game will start at 7:05 PM.

Vietnam: An Inner View

Vietnam Veterans Appreciation Parade

When: Saturday, August 6, 9 AM  Where: East & State Street, Ludlow, MA 01056

This parade, hosted by the town of Ludlow, will honor and thank veterans of the Vietnam War, including POWs and those who were MIA. A ceremony will follow the parade on the steps of the Town Hall. Rain date will be August 7.

The Vietnam Veterans Moving Wall Memorial

When: Wednesday, August 10–Sunday, August 14  Where: Gore Place, Grove Street Entrance, Waltham, MA 02453

"The Moving Wall" is a half-size traveling replica of the Washington, D.C. Vietnam Veterans Memorial, which honors the fallen service members of the Vietnam War. The Wall will be open to visitors 24/7, and will feature an information tent to locate names and provide materials for a rubbing. Exhibit tents will also have documents, pictures, and memorabilia. Programs will be held on August 11th and 12th at 7 PM, and August 13th and 14th at 2 PM. Learn more here.

Veterans Upward Bound Two-Day Workshop

When: Tuesday, August 16 and Wednesday, August 17th  Where: Bunker Hill Community College, 250 New Rutherford Avenue, Charlestown, MA 02129

Hosted by Veterans Upward Bound (VUB), this two day workshop offers refresher courses and presentations on services available to veterans who are going for a degree. Workshops will include: refreshers in math, English, and computer skills; presentations on services for veterans like mental health counseling; tips on easing the transition to college; and a VUB alumni panel. The Wall That Heals in Massachusetts

The Wall That Heals is a traveling replica of The Wall in Washington, D.C. for the fallen service members of the Vietnam War. The Wall That Heals is brought to different communities around the US to remember the fallen and "tell the story" of the Vietnam War. Learn more on the West Springfield event's website.

Unsung Heroes Documentary Screening

The documentary Unsung Heroes shows the stories of American female patriots and the courage of their sacrifices, hardships, and commitment to the United States. All veterans and families are welcome to attend this event; light refreshments and snacks will be served, and information on the Women Veterans Network and veterans' benefits will be available. Military Appreciation Day Golf Fundraiser

The 5th Annual Military Appreciation Day Golf Fundraiser will be raising money for the Massachusetts Soldiers Legacy Find, which provides grants to children of service members killed in action during OIF/OEF. The day will include a buffet dinner, cash bar, and raffle. Military service members (active duty and veterans) and their families can participate for free; the fee for nonmilitary members is $75. 7th Annual Warrior Thunder Motorcycle Ride (Fundraiser)

When: Saturday, September 10, 9:30 AM  Where: Medfield American Legion, 110 Peter Kristof Way, Medfield, MA 02052

This motorcycle ride will benefit Fisher House Boston and the Warrior Thunder Foundation, and include a BBQ, chance to win a custom Harley Davidson, and 45 miles of escorted roads. 2016 Annual Thanks to Yanks Tribute Dinner

"Welcome Home" Vietnam Veterans Benefit Concert (Fundraiser)

Hosted by Veterans Assisting Veterans, this classic rock fest is going to officially welcome Vietnam veterans to Massachusetts. All the money raised will go to local organizations to help veteran first responders with PTS and buy TRAK wheelchairs for combat-wounded veterans. Members of featured bands like The Yardbirds, J, Geils Band, Experience Hendrix New England, and more; and former members of Boston, Foghat, and Outlaws. Massachusetts Gold Star Families Memorial Dedication

Operation Money Wise
