Veteran Services & Job Fair Celebrity Basketball Game

In honor of National Armed Forces Day, the City of Newton is welcoming Veterans, National Guard/Reserves, Active Military & Families for a day of fun and excitement. This event, which will feature a celebrity basketball game, is desgined to help connect our veterans and military personnel to various service providers and exployment opportunities available to them. Door open at 12:30, Game tips off at 1:30PM. 9th Annual African American Military Heritage Day

Women Veteran Pond Hike
Date: May 18th, 2012, 09:30AM-2:00PM Where: Ponkapoag Golf Course 2167 Washington Street, Canton MA 02021
Join the Massachusetts Women Veterans' Network and the Boston Vet Center for a women veteran hike around Ponkapoag Lake. The hike will be light to moderate conversation pace for approximately 4 miles around the pond. Bring water and a sack lunch in a backpack with extra socks (in case your socks should become wet) Please wear appropriate comfortable hiking clothing and shoes.

Hosted by Project New Hope in collaboration with Assumption College Institute for Social and Rehabilitation Services. Stop by and hear the remarkable story of a Vietnam combat veteran who became a Zen Buddhist monk and an international peace activist. Open to Veterans, Their Families & Friends and the general public. Claude Thomas was seventeen when he volunteered for active duty in Vietnam, where became a crew chief on assault helicopters. When he returned home, like so many Vietnam veterans, he found himself unable to reenter society, and for many years he struggled with post-traumatic stress, addiction, isolation, homelessness, and debilitating despair. “Everyone has their Vietnam,” writes Thomas. “Everyone has their war.
