Air Quality | MassDEP

Learn about air pollution, its health and environmental effects, and state efforts to improve air quality and address climate change.

Gases, particles and toxics in the air we breathe can harm our lungs and threaten our health. Some air pollutants, known as greenhouse gases, form a "blanket" around the Earth that traps heat and causes severe, unstable weather. MassDEP regulations, permits and programs help reduce the risks posed by air pollution and climate change.
