Commonwealth Avenue Bridge Replacement

This project replaces the existing superstructure (the concrete deck and steel beams) that carries Commonwealth Avenue and the MBTA Green Line B branch over I-90 (Massachusetts Turnpike) and the MBTA Commuter Rail line.

On August 11, Commonwealth Avenue, the BU Bridge, the MBTA Green B Line, and CT2 and 47 bus routes resumed normal operations. Construction crews successfully demolished the Commonwealth Avenue westbound portion of the old bridge deck and installed the new bridge deck.

Through Fall 2018, off-peak and overnight lane closures on Commonwealth Avenue and I-90 in the vicinity of the bridge are necessary for crews to carry out finishing work.
