Rule 4

An unrepresented defendant who has pleaded not guilty to any complaint shall be advised by the judge at the time of his hearing or trial that on any material matter pertaining to the offense charged he has the following rights:

(a) to cross examine any witness offered by the prosecution; and

(b) subject to cross examination, to offer testimony by himself or any other witness.

The judge shall also then advise him of his rights not to testify and not to be prejudiced if he remains silent. If the prosecution offers an exhibit the judge shall allow the defendant to examine it.
