This MassHr eLearning course is designed to meet accessibility standards. These standards are issued by various authorities. As a group the standards are based on work of the World Wide Web Consortium, notably the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG). Federal ADA and Section 508 requirements are reflected as well as requirements of the Commonwealth Information Technology Division (ITD).
At present ITD requirements parallel the WCAG 1.0. Our courseware is designed to this standard.
Our courseware includes many accessibility capabilities, such as screenreader compatibility (JAWS and NVDA tested); closed captions and plain text transcripts for the videos; consistent keyboard- only navigation procedures; audio narration; optional on-screen audio transcript; plain text transcript of the entire course.
In general we have attempted to apply principles of Universal Design to this work. Suggested reading: "Universal Design for Web Applications" by Wendy Chisholm and Matt May (Sebastopol, CA: O'Reilly, 2008).
