Commonwealth of Massachusetts Executive Office of Health and Human Services Office of Medicaid 600 Washington Street Boston, MA 02111 www.mass.gov/masshealth MassHealth All Provider Bulletin 149 November 2005 TO: All Providers Participating in MassHealth FROM: Beth Waldman, Medicaid Director RE: Elimination of the MassHealth Secure File Delivery Application Background In November 2004, MassHealth launched the Secure File Delivery Application (SFDA). This application allowed our trading partners to receive the proprietary supplemental electronic remittance advice, as well as the following HIPAA-compliant transactions, via the Internet: 820 - Payroll Deducted and Other Group Premium Payment for Insurance Products 834 - Benefit Enrollment and Maintenance 835 - Health Care Claim Payment/Advice 997 - Functional Acknowledgment New Method of 837 Claims Submission and Receiving Certain Transactions On June 23, 2005, MassHealth successfully implemented secure, Web- based claim submission and transaction retrieval for trading partners via the MassHealth Web site at www.mass.gov/masshealth. As part of our ongoing administrative simplification efforts for providers and other trading partners, effective immediately, all MassHealth trading partners who currently retrieve transactions from SFDA should retrieve them from the MassHealth Web site. As a result, trading partners who currently retrieve their 997 functional acknowledgments, 835 remittance advice, proprietary supplemental electronic remittance advice, 820 premium payment, or 834 benefit enrollment via SFDA need to establish an account (if they do not already have one) for the MassHealth Web site. MassHealth will discontinue SFDA as of December 31, 2005. Outreach and Support MassHealth Customer Service is contacting all SFDA users to provide them with the necessary user ID and password for transaction retrieval through the MassHealth Web site. Trading partners already submitting their 837 claim transactions through the Web can use the same user ID and password for retrieving these transactions as well. All Providers and other trading partners are encouraged to submit claims and receive transactions through the Web. Web submission and retrieval is our recommended solution in lieu of disks, CDs, paper, and the Bulletin Board (BBS) retrieval system. To participate in MassHealth electronic transaction exchange through the Web, please contact Customer Service.
