This two-day training typically includes an overview of the following topics:

  • ·       Site Selection and Proper Tree Planting Techniques
  • ·       Funding Urban and Community Forestry
  • ·       Diagnosing Insect and Disease Problems
  • ·       Soil Health
  • ·       Assessing the Urban Forest

Tree Steward Training is offered by the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation’s Bureau of Forest Fire Control and Forestry’s Urban and Community Forestry Program, the USDA Forest Service, and the Massachusetts Tree Wardens’ and Foresters’ Association.

It is an annual program designed for community Tree Board members, Tree Wardens and other municipal staff, tree activists, planners, interested citizens, and green professionals interested in the topics and issues of urban and community trees and forests.
