Notice of Public Hearing

NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING
Pursuant to the provisions of M.G.L. c. 30A §2, on October 3, 2018 there will be a public
hearing regarding the proposed 515 CMR 7.00, Long Term Retention and Preservation of
Evidence by Governmental Agencies, at the Massachusetts State Police Crime Laboratory, 124
Acton Street, Maynard, MA. The hearing will begin at 9:00am and conclude at 1pm. The
proposed CMR is the result of M.G.L. c. 278A, §16(b) which requires governmental agencies to
retain and preserve evidence or biological material from criminal convictions for the purpose of
future scientific analysis. The proposed CMR sets forth the manner in which governmental
agencies should maintain post-conviction evidence to prevent its destruction or deterioration.
Those wishing to send in their comments as opposed to attending the hearing can either mail
their comments to Kerry A. Collins, Legal Counsel for the Massachusetts State Police Crime
Laboratory, 124 Acton Street, Maynard MA, 01754 or to Kerry.collins2@mass.gov.
Such comments should be sent to Attorney Collins by October 4 by 5pm. A copy of the
proposed CMR can be found here: 515 CMR 7.00. Any member of the public wishing to attend this hearing must present valid photo identification prior to entering the Crime Laboratory.
