Overview   of Rutland - Design Public Hearing webinar and comment period

A Virtual Design Public Hearing will be published on the MassDOT website below to present the design for the proposed reconstruction of Route 56 (Pommogussett Road) project in Rutland, MA.

Purpose:

The purpose of this hearing is to provide the public with the opportunity to become fully acquainted with the proposed reconstruction of Route 56 (Pommogussett Road) project. All views and comments submitted in response to the hearing will be reviewed and considered to the maximum extent possible.

Proposal:

The proposed project consists of improved pedestrian and bicycle accommodations as well as pavement rehabilitation and drainage improvements. The culvert and spillway at Moulton Pond and Mill Brook are also in need of repair. The proposed improvements include pavement rehabilitation with minor box widening, from Route 122A to the intersection of Brunelle Drive, a distance of 1.0 mile. The project involves improvements to pedestrian and bicycle accommodations, including sidewalk reconstruction and extension. Additional improvements include repair or replacement of a culvert, drainage upgrades, new signage and pavement markings. The proposed cross section includes 11’ travel lanes, 5’ shoulders and a 5.5’ hot mix asphalt sidewalk on one side with granite curb.

A secure right-of-way is necessary for this project. Acquisitions in fee and permanent or temporary easements may be required. The town is responsible for acquiring all needed rights in private or public lands. MassDOT’s policy concerning land acquisitions will be presented in the hearing.
