Story of a Building "Renovation” - Online Class

Is your school ripe for a renovation? Learn how the Webster School District transformed its outdated building and achieved sustainability goals.

The Webster School District’s architect will discuss the transformation plan for the sprawling late 1970’s vintage Bartlett High School renovation project. The plan will breathe new life into this school building, both inside and out. The renovated school will accommodate the school district’s modern plan for teaching and learning.

Learn what features of the old building were factors in determining why it is a candidate for renovation. Learn how the architect will reimagine the school’s dark spaces like internal classrooms, devoid of natural light and proper ventilation, into vibrant learning spaces. A key building component, the school’s original construction, allows for design flexibility in creating the new spaces required for future learning opportunities.  

For the fiscally minded, the design team estimates that this major building renovation will cost less than a new building. 

For educators, the Superintendent will highlight her vision to increase both teacher and student collaboration through building design, improved scheduling and expansion of course offerings.

For the environmentally conscious, the presenters will discuss building reuse plans; how fewer new materials/products diminish demand on resources; and how shipping and transport to the site reduces mobile carbon emissions.
