Massachusetts Safe Routes to School Program Planning and Discussion

What: With the release of the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education [DESE] “Fall Reopening Transportation Guidance,” the Safe Routes to School (SRTS) team looks forward to supporting schools and districts with arrival and dismissal planning to encourage safe and active student transportation. The team will show how SRTS best practices can complement the recommendations included in the DESE guidance.  

Agenda:

  • A presentation of SRTS tools including arrival/dismissal planning and communication; mapping and remote drop-off; family vehicle idling (support from THE GREEN TEAM), and pedestrian and bike safety training resources (10-15 mins)
  • The MassDOT “Shared Streets & Spaces Program” grant and how schools can benefit (5 mins)
  • Breakout groups for a guided discussion lead by a SRTS team member (15-20 mins)
  • Presentation of discussion points from breakout groups (10-15 mins)
  • Q&A and wrap-up

What will NOT be covered in this Webinar:

  • School bus routing or capacity
  • SRTS Infrastructure grants or Signs and Lines grants
  • COVID-19 health and safety guidance other than what specifically applies to active transportation

Who Should Attend: The content is designed for school administrators, school-based personnel, and local SRTS task force leaders

When: August 12, 2020 at 10 AM and 2 PM (Please select one session to attend.  Attendance is capped at 100 per session.)
