What you need for Apply for a bus permit, moving decal, or towing decal
- For bus permits, complete the bus permit application for new permits and to renew existing permits.
- For moving and towing decals, complete the moving and towing decal application for new decals.
- Renewal forms will be mailed to you in October.
- Permits and decals should be placed on the curb side of the vehicle close to the entrance door.
- All bus permits expire on September 30th of each year.
- Bus permit renewal forms are mailed out in July.
- All moving and towing decals expire on December 31st of each year.
- Moving and towing decal renewal forms are mailed out in October.
Fees for Apply for a bus permit, moving decal, or towing decal
The Department now accepts online payments through nCourt or by mail.
- $60 for each new bus permit
- DPU is required to inspect each vehicle in your fleet before it goes into service.
- $40 for each renewal bus permit
- $40 for each new and renewal moving/towing decal

You can complete the permit or decal application and submit it to the Department along with a check or money order payable to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. More information can be found on the Pay Transportation Oversight Division Fees page.

You can complete the permit or decal application online and pay fees through nCourt.
To submit a permit or decal application online, you will need to fill out the form using Adobe Reader or Adobe Acrobat and submit the form using the red button at the bottom of the form. You will also need to pay required fees through nCourt or by check or money order mailed to the Department. Please note that paying fees by mail will delay processing.
