Apply for a marine fueling permit

Any company or individual that provides marine fuel from fixed locations, barges, or mobile facilities (tank trucks) must have a marine fueling permit issued by the Department of Fire Services.

Completed applications for fixed facilities must include:

  • A photocopy of your current Permit (Form FP-006) to store flammable or combustible liquids
  • A copy of your land license for the storage of flammable or combustible liquids (Form FP-002), if applicable
  • A copy of your Certificate of Registration (Form FP-005) for the storage of flammables and combustibles, if applicable,
  • A list of responsible employees who have been trained
  • Fire department approval

Completed applications for barge facilities must include:

  • Barge or vessel names
  • Approval from harbormaster for each mooring site and for each barge or fuel vessel
  • A photocopy of the United States Coast Guard Certificate of Inspection
  • A list of responsible employees who have been trained
  • Fire department approval

Completed applications for mobile facilities must include:

  • A photocopy of the motor vehicle registration certificate (RMV3)
  • A list of responsible employees who have been trained
  • Fire department approval

Facility owners must follow the requirements of the Massachusetts Comprehensive Fire Safety Code (527 CMR 1.00). Year-round permits are valid January 1 - December 31 of each year. Seasonal permits are valid only for the months of operation.
