The FY '20 S.A.F.E. & Senior SAFE Grant applications are due September 27, 2019.

Download the FY’ 20 S.A.F.E. and Senior SAFE Grant Application – fillable form. Determine the Tier your fire department is eligible to apply for.

Meet with your school or senior partners and plan your program.

If you had a S.A.F.E. or Senior SAFE program last year, meet to review and adjust the plan for this year.

File all past year S.A.F.E. and Senior SAFE year-end reports. The FY' 19 Year End Report are due on January 31, 2019.

Submit all Massachusetts Fire Incident Reports (MFIRS) through June 30, 2019.

  1. Download the S.A.F.E. & Senior SAFE Grant Application

    You can use a single application to apply for both the S.A.F.E. and the Senior SAFE Grant programs.

    Download the version of the application you want to use: fillable PDF, PDF or Word.

    Review your community tier amount FY '20 Statewide Tier Amounts. Tiers show how much your department can apply for. Fire districts can apply for the percent of eligible funds that equals the percent of the population they protect.

    Review the S.A.F.E. and Senior SAFE Grant Writing PowerPoint (TM) presentation.

  2. Parts of the Application

    Be sure to submit all parts of the application:

    • Cover Sheet - Fire department information
    • Community Data Sheet - includes information about the school population
    • Budget Worksheet and Narrative - explains how you will spend funds
    • Mission Statement - is an agreement to all parties to the mission of the S.A.F.E. Program
    • Grant Narrative - summarizes the programs goals and objects
    • Signature Page - must include wet signatures from the fire  and school departments. If you submit your application online, you must mail this page.
    • Evaluation - submit samples of the student and instructor evaluations you will use.
    • Submit complete applications by 5 p.m. Friday, September 27, 2019.

    Please contact the Fire Education Unit early and often with any questions.

  3. Past Year-End Reports and MFIRS

    As part of the contract for S.A.F.E. and Senior SAFE, fire departments agree to submit year-end reports by the due date. Your FY' 20 application is incomplete if any year-end reports are missing.

    The FY' 19 Year-End report is due January 31, 2020.

    The fire department must report all fire incidents through June 30, 2019 before grant funds are released.
