Your Medical Use of Marijuana Program registration expires annually. You must renew your registration every year to continue enrollment in the Program.

What you need


Your Program ID card expires each year on the same day as your Program registration. When you renew your registration, you will be sent a new Program ID card.

  • A valid certification
    Check to see if your patient certification from your health care provider has expired. You can check your certification status by accessing your MMJ Online System account or calling the Medical Use of Marijuana Program at (617) 660-5370. If it has expired, you will need to visit a qualified health care provider to get recertified as a medical marijuana patient before you can renew your registration with the Medical Use of Marijuana Program.
  • Current, acceptable form of identification (ID)
    This is only required if there is a change in information from your previous registration or if you have an updated ID. This includes a change in your ID’s expiration date.
  • Your MMJ online system username and password
    If you forgot your login information, call the Virtual Gateway Customer Service:

  • A form of payment or proof of verified financial hardship
    Accepted forms of payment include credit card, debit card, or electronic funds transfer.

How to renew

Renewing your registration online through the MMJ Online system is the fastest and easiest method. If you already have an online account, do not create a new account. Doing so will delay your renewal process.

If you have elected a personal caregiver, remember to renew their registration as well.

Registration renewal through paper forms is available for those who are unable to renew their registration online. Please note that paper registration renewal is a more lengthy process. To request a paper registration form, please call the Program at (617) 660-5370.
