What you need

If you receive a MBTA fare evasion ticket, you have 30 days to pay it. Otherwise, you need to request a hearing within 30 days. Fines for MBTA fare evasion are:

  • First offense — $50
  • Second offense — $100
  • Third or subsequent offenses — $300

How to respond

You must either pay the fine in person or request a hearing with the MBTA within 30 days.

If you don’t pay the fine or request a hearing within 30 days, the RMV will not renew your driver’s license or right to operate until the fine is paid.
