PITTSFIELDA Hinsdale man pleaded guilty this afternoon in Berkshire Superior Court to several charges. 44 year old MICHAEL J. LITCHFIELD appeared before Judge John Agostini.

LITCHFIELD pleaded guilty to one (1) count of MANSLAUGHTER, one (1) count of CONSPIRACY TO VIOLATE DRUG LAWS, TO WIT: DISTRIBUTION OF HEROIN and one (1) count of POSSESSION OF HEROIN WITH INTENT TO DISTRIBUTE. Judge Agostini ordered that he serve concurrent 3 and a half to 6 year state prison sentences at the Massachusetts Correctional Institution at Cedar Junction. The Judge did recommend that LITCHFIELD serve his sentence at the Berkshire County House of Correction.

On February 5, 2016 LITCHFIELD sold fentanyl laced heroin to 39 year old SHAWN FILIAULT who died after ingesting the drug. LITCHFIELD was also in possession of heroin with the intent to sell when he was arrested on July 8, 2016.

The investigation was conducted by members of the North Adams and Hinsdale Police Departments, the Berkshire County Sheriff’s Department and state troopers assigned to the District Attorney’s Office, members of the Berkshire Law Enforcement Task Force.
